Introducing Computers to Our Kids – Raspberry Pi

Fellow techies, if you haven’t done so already, check out this insanely small and powerful Linux server called Raspberry Pi. This device was created by an innovative foundation in the UK for the purpose of educating and inspiring children about the world of computers and their capabilities. I have been completely won over by this little device. It has 1 GB of on board RAM and utilizes micro SD cards for permanent storage. This makes multi-imaging of this device quite possible and thus extremely flexible. Add on the fact that this device is built with WiFi and Bluetooth right on board, there isn’t much that you can’t do with very little start-up time. Finally, the GPIO pin-out is where the magic begins. There is a host of I/O devices that allow you to build applications which communicate with the real world. Time to make your kid’s Legos projects get up and GO.
